The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. And that is what love is—a feeling that can’t be captured or defined but is always present and deeply meaningful.”— Helen Keller, The Story of My Life
What is love? Is love a moment or an eternity? What is closeness? Is closeness in actions, in touches, in embraces? I photographed this couple that time, hoping to capture a closeness that can’t be acted, written, or invented. I wanted something real, and I got even more. And I hope, I truly believe I captured this beautiful feeling.
Every day, we pass by thousands of people, walking down one street after another, seeing them on posters and billboards, in social media feeds, at bus stops, in traffic jams, inside cars, in offices, stores, and cafés. We walk past them, street after street, through our daily routines. We buy clothes, eat, have fun, and grow. And then, at some point, something aligns perfectly—whether it’s in a café, a store, a library, a school, or a university café—when you take a breath and, on exhaling, realize that the choice has been made.
How do you know if it’s the right choice? Life will show you. And what life decided to show is the story of this couple who didn’t just pass each other by, back there in Kyiv, ten years ago.
The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.” — Audre Lorde, Our Dead Behind Us
Once, I was fortunate enough to be the photographer for a completely unique couple. They had known each other their entire lives and had always been part of each other’s families. Eventually, both of their partners passed away. At some point, they realized how close they were to each other, and the rest… well, you can see it for yourself.
Is there an age limit to love? The answer is obvious.
We are human beings, and we have a unique ability with no limits on how much love we can create; it’s all about willingness and openness.

“Age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying you. Love is timeless.”— Unknown
